What is Dictionary Checks ?

The Dictionary Checks feature allows the Administrator to create rules for detecting a mail as Spam or Ham.
Using the ECM FrontEnd, the Administrator can :
  • Create, Edit or Delete rules
  • Apply the created rules to Self or Sub Msps/Domains
  • View/Delete the rules applied by Parent Msp

Steps To Create a Ruleset

  • Click on the Create Ruleset button in the Dictionary Checks homepage.
  • Enter the Ruleset Name.
    • Click on the 'Check Availability' button, to check whether the rulename is already in use.
    • Only letters, digits and underscore is allowed for Rulename.
  • Select Spam or Ham for the Treat As field.
    • If Spam is selected, then the mail that matches the clause in this rule, is treated as Spam (Junk Mail).
    • If Ham is selected, then the mail that matches the clause in this rule, is treated as Ham (Clean Mail).
  • Enter a Numeric Score
    • If 'Treat as' field is Spam, then enter a Positive Score.
    • If 'Treat as' field is Ham, then enter a Negative Score.
  • Create the Rule using the Clause(s)
    • Click on the 'Remove Clause' button, to remove a clause.
    • Click on the 'Add Clause' button, to add a clause.
    • Select 'Subject' or 'Body' and enter a word/phrase in the text field.
    • When using two clauses, select the and/or field as required for the rule.
  • Click on Create ruleset to create the ruleset.
  • Example :
    • Enter the rule name as virus_warnings1.
    • Select Treated As Spam.
    • Enter the score 20.
    • Click on Remove Clause.
    • Select Subject and enter WARNING: YOU WERE SENT A VIRUS.
    • Click on Create ruleset.
  • When this rule is applied to a domain, the mails that contain WARNING: YOU WERE SENT A VIRUS in the Subject of that mail will be considered as spam, with a score of 20.
  • Note : When a new Rule is created, it is not applied to any domain, not even the current domain. A rule can be applied to domains using the 'Apply Rulesets' option.

Steps to Apply a Ruleset

  • Click on the More Options >> button in the Dictionary Checks homepage.
  • Select a domain.
  • Select a rule from the 'Current Rule Set List' and click on Apply>> to apply a rule for the selected domain.
  • Select a rule from the 'Apply Rule Set List' and click on << Remove to remove a rule for the selected domain.
  • Click on Apply Changes

Steps to Delete Ruleset

  • Select one or more checkboxes in the Dictionary Checks homepage.
  • Click on the Delete Ruleset button.

Steps to Edit a Ruleset

  • Select a checkbox in the Dictionary Checks homepage.
  • Click on the Edit Ruleset button.
  • Make the required changes and click on 'Edit Rulesets'

Steps to View/Delete the Rulesets applied by Parent Msp

  • Click on the More Options >> button in the Dictionary Checks homepage.
  • Click on Applied Rules
  • The rules that are applied by the Parent Msp are displayed here.
  • To delete any of these rules, select the rules and click Delete Ruleset.
  • These rules can be reapplied only by the parent Msp.
